The Australian Centre for Photography has opened its doors on Foley Street in Darlinghurst. After the move from Paddington, the centre will continue to run major photography retrospectives, new exhibitions and its workshops and events.
Founded in 1974, ACP is one of the oldest contemporary art galleries in Australia, and a key proponent of the art form and professional practice of photography through exhibitions, publications, courses and workshops, events and public programs. There’s activities you can get get involved in at the Foley Street space, and they also run facilities, like the darkroom and photo scanning set-up, out of the National Art School in Darlinghurst.
The fresh digs are part of the City of Sydney’s efforts to revitalise the area around Oxford Street, William Street and Foley Street with creative, independent businesses. The centre is signed on for an 18-month lease, so we’ll keep an eye out for their whereabouts in mid 2020.
