The Galeries in Sydney’s CBD has long been associated with pushing boundaries, supporting Australian creatives and bringing alternative brands to the mainstream, so it should come as no surprise to discover the centre has partnered with photographer Jesse Lizotte for a one-off show that honours the art of tattooing.

Tattooed: It’s An Art is running until March 31, and is a celebration of tattooing as both a traditional and ancient art form and respected form of self-expression. The exhibition will shine a light on top Sydney tattooists Demi Iacopetta, Shaun Daniel Allen and Pheazy, and take an authentic and uninhibited look at some of their best works.

Lizotte has a passion for capturing unconventional art and subcultures, and has photographed the likes of Billie Eilish, Troye Sivan, Jason Momoa and Kelly Rowland. He grew up between Sydney and New York, and is also driven by an interest in the way in which people on the fringes of society influence popular culture and fashion – making him the ideal person to bring this project with the Galeries to life.

“The Galeries is renowned as Sydney’s home of contemporary and unique brands and artworks, and after the success of our NFT Christmas Tree, we are now shining a light on a completely different yet equally impressive art form: tattooing,” says Corrine Barchonowicz, head of marketing, brand and experience at Vicinity Centres.

“The Galeries is a place where customers can explore new experiences, always with a focus on creativity and design,” she adds.

And if you spend $200 or more while shopping at the Galeries, you can go into the draw to win one of Lizotte’s photography prints from the exhibition, plus a $500 voucher to spend in the centre. Simply visit the concierge on the ground floor to enter.

Tattooed: It’s An Art is open to the public on the ground floor of the Galeries until March 31. For more information on this exclusive exhibition, head to the website.
