Minutes outside the beautiful Baroque town of the same name, TCS Camping Solothurn is a get-away-from-it-all campsite that's also full of things to do. The site is on the River Aare with its own harbour that runs boat trips into Solothurn (Saturdays only) and has motor boats, stand-up paddle boards and e-bikes to rent on-site – don't miss the half-hour bike ride to the stork sanctuary at Altreu. For younger guests, there's a playground including sandpit and table tennis tables, as well as shallow bathing spots on the river. If you don't fancy braving the Aare, there's a leisure centre with swimming pool and tennis courts next door.
The campsite facilities are modern, spacious and clean, while reception is friendly and has a shop selling essentials. For guests without their own equipment, there are comfortable pods, safari tents and cabins to rent. Pier11 restaurant is a big highlight; all decking and lamps, it attracts a stylish crowd and its menu features fresh local options. Book it for an end-of-holiday treat. Note that although the site is accessible by public transport, the bus connection does not run on Sundays.
