Set in picturesque Gruyères, ‘the house of cheese’ has been showing visitors how its famous Gruyère AOP cheese is made since 1969 – the cheese itself dating back to 1115. As well as an extensive tour of the dairy and a detailed explanation of the processes (including observing the cheesemakers at work), there’s also a special immersive exhibition, ‘Journey to the heart of the senses’, which utilises guests’ five senses to tell the story of the cheese. There are plenty of tasting opportunities along the way, of course, as well as an on-site restaurant where you can sample all manner of dishes featuring Gruyère AOP, and a children’s playground outside.
