Since the opening of the adjacent arches of the Viadukt, housing shops, restaurants and cultural centres, the Josefwiese has become a popular meeting point for locals from all over town. Families with small children find a lavish playground with climbing and dexterity constructions for various ages as well as a water play-area for the little ones during summer. The grass offers space for football, beach tennis and even barbecues, and there is also a beach volleyball field. Fans of boules can become a member of Zurich's pétanque club, whose clubhouse is next to the fixed ping-pong tables, and for those who just fancy a beer there is a kiosk with an outdoor seating area selling drinks and snacks during the warmer months of the year.
