Confiserie Gilgen was founded in 1937 and still uses the same recipes. And they are recipes that seem to be working, Dough is made fresh daily in the medieval townhouse that is home to the bakery, and everything is handmade on the premises. It is little wonder its range of pastries, chocolates, truffles and traditional ‘Basler Läckerli’ (which are made across the city but vary in taste from bakery to bakery) have gained renown throughout Basel.
