Hands down one of the purest sushi omakase – chef’s choice – restaurants in Zurich, this place is a must-try for aficionados and curious neophytes alike. Everything has been thought out to elevate the theatre of the experience. The counter only accommodates seven guests per sitting, allowing the itamae (sushi chef) to have direct one-on-one interaction with each diner. Meanwhile, the 14 courses, which start with a miso soup before covering bite-sized dishes, Edo-style sushi and then ending with dessert served in the lounge, are all presented with a short introduction by the itamae. Can’t book for dinner? Edo Mae offers a reduced omakase at lunch times, as well as some delightful udon soups and chirashi – similar to a poké bowl.
