Since it opened in 1973, Café Aarbergerhof has become a Bern eatery for those in the know. The French-style bistro, which is a short stroll from the main station, comprises a charming clash of influences. Although its roots lie in Turkish and Greek cuisine – and these are still its specialities; the moussaka is mouth-watering – Aarbergerhof now serves numerous international dishes. On the menu you’ll find French, Italian, Mexican and Thai cuisine, as well as vegetarian options. Though innocuous from outside (you’ll need to look for the penguin sign on the street to find the entrance), inside the restaurant is distinctly Parisian bistro. Complementing the informal atmosphere, service is friendly and efficient, making Aarberghof a great spot for a birthday meal, lunch with friends or even a business dinner. Alternatively, check the website for details of upcoming musical events, which take place here once a month between October and April.
