It would be hard to miss this fairytale castle on the lakeshore at Ouchy. Built in the 12th century, its listed keep is original, though the rest was substantially renovated in the 19th century in a neo-Gothic style. Most people here know the four-star Château d’Ouchy for its lovely terrace, a good stopping point for people on a mooch round Ouchy looking for a coffee or cocktail on a summer’s afternoon. Inside, the rooms are slick and comfortable, decorated in tones of cream and brown. The grounds include an outdoor swimming pool and spa area with hammam and sauna, while guests can also use the spa facilities of the Lausanne Palace, up in town. The restaurant centres on Mediterranean cuisine and local specialities – it’s one of the best places to try perch, freshly caught in Lake Geneva and served with fries.
