Owned by alternative theatre and performance venue Le Bourg, this outdoor pop-up bar tucked under Bessières bridge is a great spot to kick back with a drink in summer. Accessed via a metal staircase from the bridge above or Rue Centrale below, it’s basically a large beer garden, one half of which is sheltered from the elements by an arch of the bridge overhead.
On a sunny afternoon or a lively weekend evening it thrives, and with its pretty coloured fairy lights and convivial atmosphere it’s easy for afternoon to merge swiftly into evening before you’ve even noticed – particularly if you get on the baby-foot table. There are some downsides – the choice of draft beer is limited, there’s only one (bottled) cider, and dedicated sun-chasers will likely move down the road to the garden of The Great Escape when the sun leaves Bourg Plage before it. But, these minor flaws aside, it’s a quirky, lively place to hang out, with plenty of room to bring your mates.
