It may sound a little incongruous to find a burlesque festival in a city not exactly known for alternative culture. But that’s even more reason to celebrate the arrival of this quirky little event which, as the blurb says, aims to ‘develop a positive, convivial and glamorous image of burlesque’. Alongside Swiss artists, the gala evening on the Saturday night will see performers from the UK, Italy, Belgium, France, Germany and Sweden take to the stage at the SCM, preceded by an Awards night on the Friday. The festival also includes workshops open to the public, and a retro and vintage market allowing punters a chance to seek out a suitably glamorous burlesque outfit of their own.
