This superb terrace is the trump card of Le Baron Tavernier hotel. Tucked within the steeply raked Lavaux vineyards between Lausanne and Montreux, Le Deck enjoys an impossibly scenic position overlooking Lake Geneva and the mountains on the French side opposite, with vines tumbling down the slope to the lake below. Frankly, it wouldn’t greatly matter what the bar was like, it would be worth coming for the view alone, especially to watch the sun setting over the Geneva end of the lake.
Thankfully though, the bar is decent. Though it can suffer from slow service in busy times (and on a clear day it’s usually busy), it offers a good selection of local wines, upmarket cocktails and beers. Or head to the restaurant area to sample the modern fusion menu, much of it fish and seafood with some intriguing flavours. The decor is stylish but unstuffy, with wicker tables and chairs, large parasols and a hypnotic infinity water feature that seems to lead directly into Lake Geneva itself.
