Vasanta Bhavan and Ponnusamy are twin restaurants in opulent Horton Place, catering for the Indian food aficionado.
Vasanta Bhavan is a pure vegetarian restaurant open from breakfast to dinner while Ponnusamy offers Chettinad vegetarian and non-vegetarian cuisine for lunch, evening tiffin and dinner. Both restaurants are part of a chain present worldwide and have specialty dishes cherished by ardent diners.
The menu at Vasanta Bhavan is richly varied and prepared by authentic Indian chefs to traditional recipes. They have a variety of special dosais and thalis, termed Madras Meal, the South Indian Thali, the North Indian Thali and the Vasanta Bhavan Special. The menu includes a variety of rice and vegetable biryani dishes, soups, snacks, raithas and salads and even kottu for dinner.
At Ponnusamy, the Chettinad tradition allows a more much chunkier table, with the most succulent chicken and a spread of seafood. The Master Chef specially recommends mutton, made into Mutton Gola, Mutton Brain Fry, Liver Fry, Kidney Fry, soup or mutton biryani. The two restaurants keep Indian cuisine alive while infusing new twists into traditional recipes.
