Situated amidst a laundry shop, Sri Maha Kali Amman kovil is one of the oldest kovils in Colombo. The temple is dedicated to Maha Kali Amman, a more intense form of the female goddess Amman or Shakthi. It is quite surprising that such a kovil has come into existence amidst a regular laundry and has gained huge popularity among the masses. Under the british rule, this place was give the name Paradise and in fact the presence of three sacred trees, namely, Bo, Palymrah and Margosa growing together in this area has made it a holy site which prompted people to build a temple here.
