Found atop a mountain, the temple was constructed during the reign of King Wattagamini Abhaya. The mountain merges in with thick forest and on one side is connected to the famed Sinharaja Forest. Getabaru Raja Maha Viharaya holds a large reclining statue of Lord Buddha and is popular for its annual Esala Perahera.
