One of the largest stupas in the world (with a height of 74.98m), constructed during the reign of King Valagamba in the 1st century BC. It is the second tallest stupa in Anuradhapura, originally standing at 100m. The premises also encompass several ponds and terraces. Walking around the northern side of the stupa, you may spot the octagonal spire and shaft, which formed the pinnacle of the stupa before the current square top replaced it.
