With news of a potential travel bubble with Australia, we're sure many of us are excited to finally be able to travel again. Some have even started planning whole travel itineraries. After all, can you blame us? It's been a whole year since most Singaporeans have gone on a vacation.

Australia is as diverse as it gets. Want to stroll by the beach while watching out for whales? Head on to Queensland. Looking to hit up some hilarious comedy shows or the theatres? Melbourne might be the answer. If you're not sure which Australian city is the best for you, read on to find out more.

RECOMMENDED: Singapore and Australia in talks to launch a travel bubble by July and leisure travel is slated to return from the second half of the year

Melbourne

Best for: Theatre, culture and terrific coffee

For a good dose of theatre, laughs at comedy shows around town and (arguably) the best coffee in the country, Melbourne might your destination. Marvel at the architecture of Flinders Street Railway Station before exploring Melbourne's cobbled streets and grabbing a cuppa coffee at one of the cafes.

Gold Coast

Best for: Hidden beaches and the hinterland

The Gold Coast may be known for its 57 kilometres of sprawling coastline and glitzy (and infamous) Surfers Paradise strip – but venture beyond and you'll find stunning hidden beaches and beautiful hinterland. Nature lovers would love Mount Tamborine, the Numinbah Valley and World Heritage-listed Lamington National Park, which is home to cascading waterfalls.

Sydney

Best for: Basic beaches – we're kidding

Sydney is famous for many things: its glittering harbour, the Sydney Opera House and Sydney Harbour Beach, and white sand beaches along its coastline. Add on its many Instagrammable cafes and brunch spots and various museums, and it makes a great vacation for those craving to explore another city. And of course, who can forget the famous Bondi Beach?

Margaret River

Best for: Aspiring wine connoisseurs

Have a burning passion for wine but have been sipping one too many glasses of wine from your living room couch? Drive through the vineyards of Margaret River – just about 230km away from Perth – and go for cabernet sauvignon and shiraz appreciation sessions straight from its source. The small town is also known for its craft breweries, independent boutiques, limestone caves and sea cliffs.

Tasmania

Best for: An escape from reality

Most Australians would argue that Tasmania isn't part of the country – but maybe that's because its landscapes are so stunning it's hard to tell if they're real. The best way to explore the island state is to rent a car and hit the roads. Make sure you put the breathtaking Wineglass Bay, Cradle Mountain, Bay of Fires and Bruny Island on your list of places to visit.

Cairns

Best for: Thrill seekers and crocodile 'hunters'

2020 wasn't scary enough for you? Head on to Cairns for an encounter with Australia's massive crocs and weather just as humid as Singapore. But in all seriousness, Cairns is home to beautiful tropical rainforests such as the Daintree Rainforest, a World Heritage Site and part of the unique Wet Tropics area.
