Set your dates – world-famous ballet Swan Lake will be performing from now to October 16 in Singapore. It’s one of the world’s most famous ballets, a classic tale of how good always triumphs over evil. In this particular reenactment by the United Ukrainian Ballet that’s set to Tchaikovsky’s score, celebrated dancers from ballet houses like The National Opera of Ukraine and Kharkiv Opera Theatre will be making an appearance.
The tale of Swan Lake is one that we all know. With Prince Siegfried and the Swan Queen Odette, it involves a complicated story with unexpected trials and tribulations. It’s the love story we grew up with, featuring a handsome prince and the possibly somewhat cliched damsel in distress – she was turned into a swan for eternity by an evil sorcerer, so we can’t exactly blame her.
Odette also only has a number of hours per day to retain her human form. In any case, expect a ballet performance with romantic ballroom scenes and graceful sequences. It is also, after all, led under the artistic direction of Igone de Jonge, the former prima ballerina of the Dutch National Ballet. Now, we all know that Ukraine is currently dealing with the aftermath of the ongoing war – each member will also be sharing their own heartfelt story of how they’ve escaped.
