Look forward to an exciting celebration of Chinese culture, heritage, and community at this year’s Qixi Festival in Chinatown’s Kreta Ayer Square. Also known as the ‘wish upon the stars festival’, this traditional Chinese festival dates back to the Han Dynasty and is celebrated on the seventh day of the seventh month on the lunar calendar. It was brought to Singapore by Chinese immigrant women in the 19th century but was forgotten in the 1970s.
Fortunately, you can now enjoy this revived historical festival happening from August 4 to 11. Gather your family and friends and head to the Qixi Fest Village where you can check out various cultural performances and exhibitions on the festival’s origins. There will also be an interactive scavenger hunt that will give you a chance to redeem a Qixi Fest goodie bag worth $77. Make sure to book the tickets for that here. Other activities include a Qiao Guo pastry making workshop and even a UNESCO Hawker Culture Gourmet Tour. Tickets for the hawker tour can be purchased here for $49 and will include an appetiser, a starter, three main courses and dessert. With so much to see and do, check out the full list of activities and more information on the festival here.
