1) Daytona USA 1994
Sega's Daytona may no longer be making the waves it once did when it launched in 1993, but the racing game remains a sold arcade classic – plant yourself in the hot seat and sped around a racetrack linked by 8-bit trees and craggy mountains.
Play it at Zone X. It's your only ticket to playing the original version of the game – although a round now costs $1.20. Besides Daytona, the arcade also has Metal Slug 4, Initial D and a kitschy, hippo-inspired version of air hockey.
2) Pac-Man Chomp Mania
Pac-Man never gets old in our books. Things are pretty much the same in this version, but with a bonus: when you enter the 'ghost chamber', the machine transforms into a kaleidoscopic LED light show.
Play it at Time Zone. Every '90s kid's favourite arcade chain is still going strong, with five outlets and an updated roster of games.
3) Time Crisis 5
'Reload! Reload! Reload!' – who else can forget the imploding voice that bleated out of this machine? We couldn't find the first edition of the shooter, but this sequel picks up where the others left off – except there are now two foot pedals.
Play it at Virtualand, where a round of Time Crisis 5 costs $2.
4) Street Basketball
You'll hear it before you see it – the dull thud of rubber on plastic, accompanied by excited shrieks as hoops are shot (and missed) in your mini basketball cage.
Play it at Cow Play Cow Moo. For eight tokens (about $1), train your aim in shooting hoops with two 40-second rounds.
5) Build a Brick
It's the prizes that reel us in: a PlayStation or iPhone for a dollar's worth of tokens. The idea is to stack animated squares until it reaches the top of the screen. Sounds easy, right? Nope.
Play it at Prize Station. This arcade has all sorts of crane machines on which you can try to win toys and gadgets.
