This year, a vibrant display of fireworks will take place at Marina Bay

It's that time of year when we hang up our national flags and brush up on classic National Day songs like Home and Where I Belong. On August 9, the nation will congregate at the historic Padang to celebrate how far we've come together and pledge to unite on the path ahead.

Besides the state flag flypast, flashy 'Salute-to-the-Nation' bomb burst flown by fighter aircraft and dizzying aerial displays by the RSAF, the most highly-anticipated aspect of the National Day Parade has got to be the fireworks display. This year, the main fireworks show will occur in the Marina Bay area alongside simultaneous displays at five locations in the heartlands. Keen to catch the dazzling display? Here are the best places to catch the NDP 2024 fireworks in Singapore.

When can I catch the NDP fireworks?

The NDP rehearsals are officially over, but there are still two previews to catch on July 27 and August 3 – these will likely have a fireworks display.

Beyond that, your final chance to catch the national birthday fireworks is during the NDP on August 9.

What time do the fireworks start?

There is currently no official information about when the fireworks start. But based on previous NDPs, an initial round of fireworks usually begins at 7.30pm, followed by the main fireworks show and national anthem at 8.15pm. We suggest getting yourself well situated by 7.30pm to beat the inevitable crowds.

Will there be fireworks in the heartlands?

That's a big yes! Heartland celebrations will take place at the following locations on August 10:

  • Yishun (field beside futsal arena)
  • Punggol (field beside Waterway Point)
  • Buona Vista (field beside Buona Vista MRT station)
  • Bishan (field opposite Bishan MRT Circle Line station)
  • Paya Lebar (field next to Paya Lebar Quarter 1)

Stay updated on the heartland celebrations at the ndp.gov.sg website.

Where to watch National Day Parade fireworks in Singapore

1. Marina Bay Promontory

The Marina Bay Promontory will offer stunning, unblocked views of the fireworks show. The only downside is that this is the obvious choice for most, so make sure to turn up early. In any case, such a huge crowd is sure to bring a buzz of excitement to the air, so make sure to soak in the festivities while enjoying the National Day fireworks display.

2. Helix Bridge

The Helix Bridge isn't just one of Singapore's most recognisable bridges, it's also a spot to get stunning views of the NDP fireworks show. Its close proximity to Marina Bay means that you'll have a front-seat view of each colourful burst of fireworks.

Those looking to spend quality time with their friends and family while waiting for the display can think about having a wholesome picnic at Marina Barrage. Since this rooftop garden overlooks the entire Marina Bay skyline, you’ll have unparalleled views here – of both the sunset and fireworks. Instead of packing your own picnic, easily pick up one of these picnic food bundles for a memorable National Day

While Gardens by the Bay will have crowds of eager folks clamouring to watch the fireworks, it’s worth checking out Bay East Garden for a more cosy and intimate experience. Since the Garden stretches along the waterfront, you’ll get sweeping views of the Marina Bay skyline and other iconic buildings. Pick out a picnic bench or grassy spot, and make yourself comfortable for the display.

Now, to get one of the best National Day fireworks experiences in Singapore, it’s a no-brainer: you’ll need to fork out some cash for it. The very best views are from Marina Bay Sands Skypark. Situated 56 storeys up in the heart of Marina Bay, you'll get a bird's eye view of Marina Bay and the Padang. Since the Skypark is exclusive to MBS guests and ticket holders, there’s no need to spend National Day jostling with strangers.

For those looking for a romantic night out, the Premium Champagne Experience at the Singapore Flyer is one that fits the bill. Tickets start from $79 per person but it’s well worth the splurge, with guests taking a slow 30-minute spin on the ferris wheel. Do a toast with a complimentary glass of champagne with the NDP fireworks as a dazzling backdrop.

8. High Street Centre Car Park

This spot is a bit of a hidden gem when it comes to catching the best of Singapore’s fireworks. Head over to High Street Centre and make your way up to the fifth floor of the car park. While the car park isn’t anything like the glitzy surrounds of MBS, you’ll still have stellar sights of the fireworks – along with heritage buildings like the National Gallery Singapore framing your view.
