The Chinatown Mid-Autumn Festival returns after two years of virtual celebrations. Running from now till September 25, lights set Chinatown aglow, together with a food fair, stage shows and a bazaar.
The theme of this year’s festival is Blossoming Flowers Under The Full Moon. Here are some of the activities that you can look forward to in Chinatown.
Chinatown Mid-Autumn Festival street light-up
The streets of Chinatown – New Bridge Road, South Bridge Road, Eu Tong Sen Street and Upper Cross Street – are dressed in beautiful lanterns. There are also larger-than-life sculptures of mooncakes from various Chinese dialect groups – Cantonese, Hainanese, Hakka, Hokkien and Teochew. Be awed by the 10m-tall sculpture showcasing a stack of snowskin mooncakes with jade rabbits around them. The sculpture faces the intersection of Upper Cross Street and New Bridge Road. The light up takes place from 7pm to 12 midnight daily.
Food Fair
The former Chinatown Food Street will also play host to the festival’s food fair for the first time. There are over 16 stalls to look for, selling street-style delights including burgers, fried sausages and tutu kueh. The Food Fair runs till September 10 from noon to 10pm.
Stage shows and Lantern Painting Competition
The stage shows have returned to Chinatown Mid-Autumn Festival 2022 with cultural performances. These take place on September 3, 4 and 10 from 7pm to 8.30pm at Kreta Ayer Square.
