Learn about the evolution of Malay culture in Singapore and its links to Nusantara at the Malay CultureFest 2022. Organised by the Malay Heritage Centre (MHC), the festival serves as a platform for local Malay performers to share their love for the arts and immerse the public in Malay culture. Look forward to an assortment of performances, workshops and online activities with themes that touch on richness, diversity and cross-cultural influences.
Performing arts group Sri Warisan will perform historical songs such as Citra Bangsa in Kampong Gelam which showcases the history of immigrants who came to Kampong Gelam, as well as Lestari seni di Taman Warisan, a royal dance and also a song used to welcome guests and tourists visiting the MHC.
The event also features a forum about the Orang Laut and the indigenous people who inhabit the smaller islands in Singapore. In this forum, MHC has invited individuals to share the lived experiences of the Orang Laut and Orang Pulau, their histories, traditions and unique beliefs.
Also, look forward to exciting workshops and online showcases that highlight traditional Malay arts such as bangsawan and silat as well as a special performance by local rock icon Ramli Sarip.
