After all, the best exercise routine is one you genuinely enjoy – factor in the fact that it helps alleviate your mood, too. As we're inching closer towards the end of Singapore's Phase 2 'Heightened Alert', it's understandable if you don't want to head to the gym just yet. Hit the hiking trails

Singapore may be known for its world-class architecture, but our city-state is also dotted with verdant greenery all around. You don't even have to travel far to go on a hike, especially with new hiking trails that snake around residential areas like the Green Corridor and Coast to Coast Trail. So put on your best trekking shoes, go on foot to explore the hidden (and not so hidden) trails around the island, and start clocking your steps.

Walk up the stairs

The next step – pun intended – is one that's accessible to everyone. Most of us living in Singapore live in high-rise buildings. Hit your fitness goals by climbing up a flight of stairs instead of taking the lift. In fact, climbing stairs is an underrated form of exercise which more people should incorporate. When done routinely, it burns fat, strengthens the lower body, tones the butt, thighs, calves and more.

Want to take it to the next level? Climb up after grocery shopping instead of taking the lift and use your groceries as weights.

Go for a spin

And no, we don't mean spinning. Cycling is an aerobic activity with numerous health – and all you need is a bicycle. With various cycling trails in and out of the CBD, you get to explore Singapore and clock in your workout while at it.

Get online

There's no motivation like working out with people who are sharing your fitness goals. Most classes in Singapore may be on pause right now, but thankfully, various gyms in Singapore have released online workouts that you can do from the comfort of your home.

Switch up your office chair

If you're working from home, it's time to embrace the exercise ball – also called a yoga ball, balance ball, or stability ball. Trying to fix a poor posture? The exercise ball will force your body to constantly make small adjustments in your core and lower body, resulting in abdominal strength and better posture, among others.
