Find beauty in imperfection at Gold & Behold, a new studio in Hillview Terrace that offers modern kintsugi workshops. Kintsugi, a Japanese art, is all about embracing the cracks – typically, artists put broken pottery pieces together to highlight, rather than hide, the seams with lacquer mixed with powdered gold.
At Gold & Behold, founder and artist Winnie practices this art with a modern twist. She purchases flawed goods from warehouses and retailers to use in her workshops and original works. Epoxy resin is mixed with gold, rose gold and copper powder, forming the glue that ties everything back together. In her retail shop, you can buy her stunning creations, which include kintsugi barrettes, earrings and porcelain pieces.
