GastroBeats 2024 is officially back in full swing till June 23 at the Bayfront Event Space, bringing us three jam-packed weeks of culinary delights, homegrown food vendors, live performances by local acts, carnival games and lifestyle booths. Planning to head down for a night of good food and good company? We’ve prepared a snappy five-minute guide with key details of the event, but if you’re looking for a full rundown of the festival highlights, read on to find out the best things to eat, see and do at this year’s GastroBeats.

What to eat

Twirl & Savour

Pasta might not be the first thing that comes to mind at a food festival, but you’ll find plenty of folks carrying around these trays of saucy noodles at GastroBeats. Twirl & Savour by the catering company 3 Embers whips up indulgent bowls of pastas, with its most popular flavour being the soft shell chilli crab linguine ($16). These noodles are coated in a rich, hearty Singapore chilli crab sauce and topped with generous chunks of fried soft shell crab for an added crunch. Wash it all down with an ice-cold can of Coca-Cola, which you can get for $1.50 (originally $2.50 ala carte) when you order a Coca-Cola and food combo.

Jett Barbecue

Spot some giant red smokers at GastroBeats this year? These are imported straight from Texas and belong to Jett Barbecue. The stall is serving up delicious slabs of meats smoked in-house for eight to twelve hours to achieve a delicious char on the outside and an oh-so-tender middle. Get stuck in on the signature Texas style smoked dino beef ribs ($19 per portion) which comes with a side of mashed potatoes for a satisfying, greasy mouthful; or snack on the beef loaded tater tots ($16), topped with heaps of smoked meat and lathered with a mix of sauces.

No Time Hot Pot

In search of some fiery mala heat? You can find just that at No Time Hot Pot. Locating the stall takes, well, no time at all, since you just have to spot a bright orange shopfront amidst the tents. Dig into bowls of mala, tomato or collagen broths that come loaded with your favourite hotpot ingredients – noodles, fishballs, fried beancurd rolls, meatballs, cheese tofu, black fungus, and more. Turn up the heat with the No Time Anyhow ($23.80) for a spicy challenge, or keep it mild and friendly with the No Time Collagen ($16.80), featuring a savoury, nourishing broth. Cut through the richness with a spritzy swig of Coca-Cola.

Sohtt

The stall’s more well-known for its Instagrammable sushi tacos (from $10), which see crispy sushi taco shells loaded with furikake ebiko rice, shredded cucumber, tamago, and your choice of filling from mentaiko crab, to sukiyaki beef, teriyaki unagi, lobster salad, or teriyaki scallop. But the mochi croffles are where it’s at. These parcels of goodness (three for $13) are stuffed with warm, chewy mochi before they’re finished off with delightful toppings like nutella sprinkles, cinnamon sugar, kaya butter, or sweet cheese.

Praffles

Add a bougie touch to your evening when you take away this luxurious – and maybe just slightly ostentatious – box of 24k gold fries from Praffles ($15.90). It might get you some stares, but it’s all in good fun. These crisp, golden brown fries are doused in your choice of sauce – the most popular being the ranch dressing – before they’re topped off with a sheet of edible gold for that touch of luxe. Pricey as it is, the portions are rather hefty, so you’ll want to share this treat with friends and family. And pro tip: nothing makes for a better combination than fries and a can of ice-cold Coke.

Loco Loco

Face it, it’s not a food fest if churros aren’t in the equation. Loco Loco is a household name at pretty much every food event by now, and if you haven’t had a taste of its bite-sized churros, you can now do so at GastroBeats. Mini churro sticks are made-to-order and fried up fresh before your eyes. Get the classic pairing of original churros with a chocolate sauce drizzle ($7), or opt for the gula melaka sauce for a more local take on the snack.

What to do

Enjoy live performances

We’re in for a treat at this year’s GastroBeats, with daily live gigs by talented local artists happening every evening after sunset. Dance and jam out to tunes by the alt pop-rock band CTRL Chaos, as well as pop-punk band Curry the Basil. The two-piece acoustic duo Farhan and Bob will be taking the stage as well, and you can also show your support to solo artistes like the indie singer-songwriter Sopes, folk-acoustic pop singer Jasper Parulan, and Gaston Liew. Other acts to look out for include the bilingual band Jumpstart, 53A who will be bringing us feel-good tunes, Joie Tan, Passerby, Shirlyn & The UnXpected, Syltra, mod-rock band Tabula, and Supersonic. Check out the live performance schedule on the GastroBeats website.

Check out i Light installations near GastroBeats

As with past years, i Light Singapore will be happening concurrently with GastroBeats, and two of the light installations are located right outside Bayfront Event Space. Check out Arc Zero: Nimbus, a ring of mist at the tip of Marina Bay’s floating walkway that looks like a portal to another dimension. Or marvel at the larger-than-life installation Iwagumi Air Scape by The Promontory at Marina Bay. The work features several illuminated giant rock displays that alternate in colours. These majestic boulders are set against the backdrop of skyscrapers, creating a never-before seen view of the Singapore skyline.

Play free games and win prizes at the Coca-Cola Food Fest

Had your fill of the bites and beats at GastroBeats? Head down to the Coca-Cola Food Fest within the festival grounds where an evening of more fun and games await. The best part: it’s completely free to take part in. But first, to get a taste of the games ahead, discard your empty Coke bottles and cans at the recycling bins around the area, or spot the bright-red recycling bins with basketball hoops near the Coca-Cola activity zone. These are part of Coca-Cola’s sustainable packaging initiative to collect and recycle its bottles and cans.

Now, ready to put those b-ball skills to test? Try your hand at the ‘Recycle Me!’ activity, an arcade-inspired game where you’ll get to shoot some hoops with five empty Coke bottles, all while learning about how its 100% recycled plastic bottles are made. Next, challenge your friends, family, or even a stranger to a comically extreme round of ‘Rock, Paper, Scissors’ at the massive game installation, where you’ll be using levers to show your next best hand.

And we know the drill all too well – pics or it didn’t happen. Take home a piece of the night with you at the Coca-Cola photo booth, which comes with a bunch of props for you to get extra creative with. Collect a stamp on your Mission Card when you complete each activity, and once you’re done with all the stations, head to the Coca-Cola gachapon station where you’ll stand a chance to win attractive prizes like a Coca-Cola hoodie made with recycled plastic, a foldable bag, or other exclusive Coca-Cola merch.
