The Five Footway Festival will make its return to Chinatown from March 9 to 17, 2024, with an exciting lineup of activities for visitors of all ages.
Dive into the history of the Chinatown’s five footway, clans, and associations to gain a deeper understanding of the lives of Singapore's early immigrants across trades, clan activities, cultural, arts and entertainment, and more.
“Through the Five Footway Festival, we look to bring visitors of all ages to experience the lives of old Chinatown Singapore through sights, sounds and flavours, bridging the past to present, with interactive elements for all to try,” says Executive Director of the Chinatown Business Association, Ms Lim Yick Suan.
Visitors will also be able to sign up for Conserved Buildings in Chinatown, a walking trail by Do it SG to explore the conservation of heritage buildings in Singapore, its history and the activities that were held at the Five Footways. There will also be a Joss Stick Storytelling sesh narrating folktales as well as a theatrical walking tour titled Tan Ah Huat in Chinatown that will transport you back in time to the early days of Singapore.
On top of that, participate in workshops to familiarise yourself with our local dialect through creation of a personalised idiom and slang colouring book, and get to know more about the music and movements of Peking Opera.
