As a celebration of all things dance, da:ns festival has been a front-runner in Singapore’s dance community for years. Now, they’ve transformed into da:ns focus, an exciting year-round season of five themed weekends. With each focusing on a special dance theme or genre, here’s what to look forward to each weekend.

da:ns focus 2023

da:ns focus starts off with EveryBody (April 14 to 16), a weekend that encourages everybody and every body to dance. It not only empowers all bodies and non-professional dancers, but also thoughtfully includes accessibility features like a relaxed environment, Singapore sign language interpretation, and wheelchair access. Make sure to drop by No Excuses, No Limits (from $40), a performance by award-winning breakdance crew Ill-Abilities – while being differently-abled, they display the infinite possibilities of all bodies.

You’ll also want to save your calendar for Body Language (May 5 to 7), a showcase of the interplay between dance and text. Contemporary dance is ever-evolving and open to wide interpretation, and you’ll see that here through a series of eye-opening installations, dialogues, and performances. Check out Revisor (from $40), a riveting dance-theatre production that takes on an archetypal comic plot through narrative dance. It’s also worth popping by Come On In (from $25), choreographer Faye Discroll’s first audio-guided exhibition with guided meditation and slow-moving sculptures.

While there, there are also plenty of free dance workshops to join. Since da:ns focus is a year-round celebration, you can also look forward to a series of other dance-focused performances like:

  • CAN – Connect Asia Now (October 13 to 15), a spotlight on contemporary dance by local and regional Asian artists
  • FL/OW – The Full Out Weekend (December 1 to 3), an emphasis on what street dance is beyond the conventional through performances, battles, and workshops
  • Ballet by the Bay (March 2024), with world-class productions of classics and neo-classicals
