After 17 editions of da:ns festivals, the dance celebration is ready to take things to the next level. Introducing da:ns focus. Spread across five weekends throughout the year, each part focuses on a particular theme or genre, and is jam-packed with exciting programmes, experiences and activities to get everyone involved – no matter if you’re a seasoned dancer or dipping your (pointe) toes into the scene for the first time.
The festival kicks off with a prelude titled Ballet on the Bay, with a series of workshops occurring on March 10, and performances happening from March 22 to 24. Ballet on the Bay will feature National Contemporary Ballet’s Esplanade debut titled Impermanence, choreographed by Singapore dance veteran Jeffrey Tan. The performance is a reflection on the ever-evolving landscape of Singapore, and peers into both the past and future to capture the city’s growth over the years.
Another exciting performance is Melissa Hamilton’s International Ballet Stars Gala, where dancers from the renowned Royal Ballet will be performing excerpts from beloved ballet classics to neoclassical works. The gala will feature stars such as Melissa Hamilton, Yasmine Naghdi, and Ryoichi Hirano, as well as dancers from Hamburg Ballet and Stuttgart Ballet. An ensemble appearance from Singapore Ballet will complement these performances. Those interested in the art of dance can also sign up for masterclasses held by Melissa Hamilton and Yasmine Naghdi, which will be held on the same weekend.
