The best shops at Bugis Street

Level 1: Souvenirs and F&B

Bugis Street is a sprawling street filled with all kinds of stores, though it’s on the first floor where you’re likely to find a souvenir or two – a token for the fond times spent in our little red dot.

Head over to Joe’s Outlets (L1, ABFL 01) where you’ll find the quintessential range of Singapore-branded souvenirs, with everything from keychains to mugs. You can also pick up a few local snacks, such as the famed Irvins salted egg potato chips. For a more unique holiday souvenir, you can make a stop over at SG Ointments & Gifts (L1, EFL 03), where you’ll find traditional ointments that most locals grew up with. Tiger Balm, Axe Universal Oil, Yu Yee Medicated Oil – these have been proclaimed as life savers when it comes to body aches.

You’ll also want to get a taste of local fare while at Bugis Street. Fuel up at Food Lagoon (L1, CFL J01), a new air-conditioned food court. With food stations, where you can DIY your own popiah, fried carrot cake, or dessert crepe, it makes for a memorable hands-on experience. If you’re still peckish, pop by Rookie Pancake (L1, ABFL 10) which serves savoury Chinese-style crepes with flavours like black pepper beef and bacon cheese. Make sure to also drop by Long Juan Feng (L1, MSQ 13) along the main street for some refreshing local drinks to beat the heat.

Level 2: Affordable fashion

Make your way up to Level 2 for a massive clothing haul. Bugis Street is known for its affordable clothing and here, you’ll spot everything you need for a new wardrobe, from trendy puffer bags to classic denim jackets. For a statement piece or outfit staple, there are a few stores you’d need to check out: Essy (L2, CSL D01), JSB (L2, FSL 07), or size-inclusive brand Rebel Plus (L2, CSL D13). Take your time to browse – you’re sure to find a piece you love.

You’ll also want to pick up a casual tee at Sozo-One (L2, CSL C03) – their graphic tees not only boost your street cred, but are comfy in their oversized fit. As for the perfect accessory to complete your outfit, take the time to peruse Rush (L2, CSL 01) which has a great selection of shoes and bags. Whether you’re looking for kitten heels or strappy sandals, this on-trend shop has it all.

Level 3: Nail salons

By now, you’re bound to have gathered an entirely new wardrobe. Take a breather and treat yourself at one of the many nail salons on Level 3 for a much-deserved mani-pedi. Hanah Nails (L3, #03-42B) offers intricate designs, from a classic French manicure to diamante-studded nails. Since they also offer lash extensions and brow embroidery, you ought to slot yourself in for a full makeover.

Other nail salons that are worth checking out are D’nail Lover (L3, #03-115) for affordable and long-lasting manicures or Lily Nails Salon (L3, #03-135) for their professional services.

Bugis Street shopping guide

While Bugis Street has a slew of things to do, shopping is always a constant favourite. Make sure to dress for a shopping day out, with comfortable footwear and clothing suitable for Singapore’s weather. Remember that there’s a sheltered link bridge that conveniently connects Bugis Street to all the shopping malls in the area, including Bugis Junction, and Bugis+ – an easy way to avoid Singapore’s unpredictable thunderstorms.

You’ll also want to pop by nearby Instagrammable spots, such as the Bugis Street Art Lane. The wall mural is a vibrant pop of colour, making it the perfect backdrop for outfit shots or edgy poses. There’s also the Urban Staircase – not only does it conveniently provide access to the upper floors, but it’s also a photogenic rest area.
