It has been one year since Singapore’s ‘circuit breaker’, when concert halls, theatre venues and hotels were forced to shut down. But the spirit of theatre still burned brightly, with various theatre companies bringing their production online. A year on, audiences have started streaming back into theatres – albeit, still not in its full glory.
Double Confirm Productions and Sight Lines Entertainment are breaking the barriers between physical and virtual plays with their latest production, The Curious Case of the Missing Peranakan Treasure. Get to know the storied halls of our grande dame with a first-of-its-kind interactive play set in the iconic Raffles Hotel Singapore. The play was written by award-winning playwright Jean Tay and directed by critically acclaimed actor/director Hossan Leong.
Running from April 1 to June 30, the enthralling detective whodunnit tale investigates the missing Peranakan treasure: the crown jewel of the fictional "Treasures of the Straits" exhibition at the Raffles Hotel Singapore. While the play starts off slow in the beginning, it drives you in – and you find yourselves on the edge of your seat as you explore the hotel’s historic grounds and venture through its illustrious halls, watching as the story plays out and piecing clues together to decide how the story unfolds.
Filmed entirely on location at Raffles Hotel Singapore with a 360-degree virtual reality (VR) camera, audiences will get a unique virtual experience through immersive 360-degree views, surround sound, augmented reality choice-based functions, and an intriguing plot. You can choose to unravel the mystery from the comfort of your own home by watching it online or in real life at Raffles Hotel Singapore itself if you book a staycation package in a Courtyard Suite.
The best part? Those who are able to solve the mystery will get prizes ranging from e-vouchers for purchases at Raffles Boutique to an elegantly chic Afternoon Tea Experience for two at The Grand Lobby (worth $156+). If you solve the mystery successfully, you'll get to participate in the Grand Draw for a chance to win a one-night stay in the architecturally stunning Presidential Suite at Raffles Hotel Singapore worth more than S$18,000.
Tickets are priced from $38 and will be available on SISTIC and Raffles Hotel Singapore's website starting March 1.
So set aside an evening, get comfy and immerse yourselves in this tale about love, loss, betrayal and trust – perfectly reimagined for the times we're living in.
