The calming sea, lush forest floor and bustling concrete jungle. These are just some unconventional sources of inspiration that Zee and Elle tap on to create intricate, multi-layered and nature-themed creations at their bakery. The pair use Mother Nature as a muse, translating scenic snapshots into edible works of art. Some highlights: a tree cake, complete with the undulating textures of tree bark, chocolate branches, and dried flowers; and a two-tiered creation in hues of oceanic blue, studded with seashells and macarons.
“Nature has always been a therapeutic retreat for us, and it’s the most organic inspiration we can draw from,” shares Zee. “In today's hectic world, we hope that everyone can take a step back to appreciate nature and what it has to offer.” These beautiful cakes are priced from $55, and orders can be placed online via its website. The natural inspiration extends beyond design to the baking process. Cake flavours come in botanical themes: there’s guava lychee (from $38 for a petite four-inch one), where guava sponge is slathered with guava cream and juice lychee bits; and honey yuzu (from $58), a personal favourite of the pair, with yuzu cake layered with yuzu curd and manuka honey cream. There are also vegan and sugar-free options on the catalogue if you're looking for a lighter and guilt-free way to enjoy cake.
“They are refreshing, light flavours that focus on fruits – another part of nature that we love to highlight in our cakes,” adds the co-owner. Alternatively, you can opt for a more bite-sized way to eat cake and bakes, there are dainty treats of rustic cupcakes ($29.40 for six), cheesecake bites ($38 for 16) crowned with flowers, garden-themed cookies ($18) to elaborate events of every kind. After all, it only is truly a celebration when there's a crowd – and some cake.
