Australian-inspired café-store Surrey Hills Grocer now has multiple outlets across the island – including a pet-friendly outpost at Woodleigh with a charming train theme – but their Ion Orchard outlet still one of our favourites. And it seems like many others think the same way as well, judging from the long waiting lists every weekend.
Hidden in a corner of the shopping mall’s carpark on the fifth floor, this cosy plant-filled space has floor-to-ceiling windows with a view of Orchard road, so try to reserve a window seat in advance if you can. Take note that their star dish, the flavour-packed pork shoulder benny ($28), is only available during the daytime, but the dinner menu has other mouthwatering mains like pastas and steak dishes that won’t disappoint.
While there, shop for a selection of fresh cheeses, jams, and quality produce, or grab some freshly baked bombolonis (from $5) to take home.
