This burger joint is all about creating the kind of burgers owner and former banker Cheng Hsin Yao wanted to eat (hence the name, which means ‘up to the chef’ in Japanese). Together with his brother, the pair created an Excel spreadsheet – ask them about it – and tried different combinations of meats to come up with their burger recipe. The winning formula involves rolling their beef patties into a ball, then smashing them flat (hence their somewhat irregular shape, akin to New York-style burgers), which allows for a crisp outer layer and juicy centre. Try their Ultimate Cheeseburger ($17.90), with cheese seeping through the meat. They also get points for providing a nice variety of dipping sauces, perfect with their sweet potato fries ($4.90/$5.90). The Root Beer Float ($5.50) is a beauty as well. Shi Min Xie
