The latest addition to the TungLok Group speaks Chinese with a foreign accent. Lokkee is the pet project of Norman Hartono – third generation son of the Tijoe family and the man behind Dancing Crab – that takes its cues from bastardised Chinese take-out food cooked for Western palates. The homesick and those educated overseas will find comfort in plates like orange chicken ($16) dressed with juicy, sticky-sauced Mongolian beef with onion slivers ($32), and kung pao chicken with mango and egg white meringue ($18). The bar also turns out cocktails to fit the theme: drops of five-spice bitters spike an Old Fashioned ($15) cocktail, and gin-infused oolong tea flavours the restaurant's version of the Tom Collins ($15).
