This restaurant in One Holland Village nails the Hong Kong film aesthetic of the 80s down to a tee, complete with neon signages, emerald-hued tiles, cinema posters, and more. Is it a tad flashy? Sure. But the Cantonese classics served here set out to impress. Must-orders include the hami melon sea conch chicken soup ($58), which features Xinjiang melons with dried sea conch, scallops, pork ribs, and ginseng simmered for eight hours to achieve a rich, sweet and savoury flavour. And while Chinese New Year isn’t quite top of mind just yet, the signature Lo Hey tossed chicken salad ($22.80) is meant to be enjoyed any time of the year. Poached chicken is doused with a tangy vinaigrette sauce and then tossed up with a medley of vegetables and condiments for an added crunch. Fans of Chinese desserts can warm their bellies with Lo Hey’s homemade almond paste ($6.80) with sweet potato chunks, sago seeds, and ginkgo nuts.
