It’s yet another hidden izakaya in the midst of Orchard Plaza: Kakiin Oyster Bar, a cosy Japanese joint that prides themselves on the freshest of oysters. Here, they bring in live oysters from all over the world – some of their trusted oyster suppliers are New Zealand for subtle, briny flavours and Canada for its creamy plumpness.
Order the assorted oyster platter ($24 for 6), which comes with an array of different flavours: grilled, with either sake or garlic butter, sauteed in butter shoyu, or smoked in oil. For an extra luxurious meal, choose to add on ikura (50 grams) for $18. No doubt that as an oyster bar, it's the oysters we’ll be flocking over for, but they do also have an interesting selection of teppanyaki dishes like Hokkaido beef tendon ($20) and chicken gizzard ($10). Like all izakayas, drinks are aplenty with usual suspects like sake and shochu.
