Bukit Merah dwellers will remember Jeong’s Jjajang from Block 161 Bukit Merah Central coffee shop, where it used to serve up authentic Korean food at affordable prices. However, due to its not-so-convenient location and small kitchen size, chef Jun Seong decided that it would be wiser to move to a more central location, even if it meant an increase in prices.
The newly opened establishment can be found along Killiney Road, where it boasts a more extensive menu, including new items such as jjinmandu (steamed dumplings, $14.74) and bosam (Korean boiled pork wrap, from $58.30). Of course, favourites such as jjajangmyeon and jjampong have remained on the menu, with their prices increased to $11.99 and $20.79 respectively. Don’t worry, this price increase means a quality increase as well. Chef Jun Seong continues to serve noodles handmade upon order, and now that he has a larger kitchen, makes the black bean sauce and dumplings from scratch as opposed to using pre-prepared sauce and frozen dumplings.
While the price hike may deter customers, Jeong’s Jjajang offers a weekday lunch menu with affordable prices starting from $9.90. The restaurant will also not be charging GST for any of its items, so you don’t have to worry about any extra costs.
