Owners Phyllis and Deborah have declared the goal is to provide a space where diners can set up ‘therapy’ sessions with friends. The waiter explained that our thinly sliced turkey with fried-egg panini ($15), served alongside sea-salted crisps and a cold couscous salad, comes unpressed in order to avoid yolk breakage. Yet we couldn’t help thinking how much better it would taste with the signature Panini of Crunch; perhaps sticking to the all-day breakfast menu, Belgian-style waffles with maple syrup or home-made bagels would be a better route to take. Hanging lightbulbs, along with the tall shophouse windows, brighten the hardwood floors and retro couches that fill this open space. The espresso bar uses Costa Rican beans, and also has a selection of craft beers and boutique wines on hand for those looking to find solace in booze.
Coffees $4-$4.40; paninis $11-$15; all-day breakfast $3.50-$11; wine $11.50; beer $12-$20.
