Another Korean restaurant finds its home in Telok Ayer, dubbed Singapore’s very own K-Town. Gamtan operates as a Korean barbecue joint by evening, serving only premium cuts of USDA Prime beef and Duroc pork, but it’s really the lunch menu that piques our interest. Sotbap, literally translated to ‘pot rice’, is the main event here. You’re meant to scoop the rice and ingredients out of the metal pot into a side bowl, mix in a sauce, and enjoy it all together. At the end of the meal, it’s customary to add hot tea to the remaining rice in the pot to make nurungji, or scorched rice tea. Sets start from $23.80 for the mushroom option, but popular picks include the steak ($34.80) and domi (seabream) sotbap ($32.80), of which the latter also comes with tender scallop chunks on the side.
