Edo Shokudo is a casual eatery in White Sands, Pasir Ris that features a menu of affordable Japanese fare. While it boasts of its teppanyaki concept, there are no chefs working on teppan grills and delighting diners with theatrical knife work here. Instead, diners choosing the teppanyaki options will get their food served piping hot in iron plates. Nonetheless, having teppanyaki selections is quite a novelty in the halal food scene and worth trying at least once.
Another unique menu item at Edo Shokudo is the Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki, a Japanese savoury pancake stacked (not mixed, unlike the Osaka-style okomiyaki) with layers of dough, shredded cabbage, bean sprout, fish powder, dried shrimp, tenkasu (tempura bits), meat, noodles, egg, all topped off with okonomiyaki sauce and dried seaweed. Other Japanese cuisine staples like ramen are also available. Sharifah Yusoff
