The search for old-school local dishes can be an arduous journey taking you across the island – and that’s where Spice Brasserie, a restaurant in PARKROYAL on Kitchener Road, comes in. It’s setting up two buffets that rep Peranakan cuisine and zi char dishes. The former serves up classic Nyonya fare, such as babi pongteh and laksa, with nostalgic tunes piped in and waiters garbed in traditional Baba outfits. And the zi char buffet is all about wok hei (that’s ‘breath of the wok’ for the uninitiated), with plates like BBQ stingray and KL-style Hokkien mee.
