Italian gelato, Korean injeolmi, and French madeleines. Enter the quirky shophouse café – a kaleidoscopic celebration of colours and culture – and choose from a delectable line-up of entremets, ice cream, and other inspired creations. Here, the parfaits ($24) served are fit for a queen. Choose two scoops of ice cream – try the basque cheesecake, scented with whiffs of truffle, alongside the chocolate Java chip for an intriguing sweet-savoury pairing – and have them be served in sculptural Raawii Strøm bowls. Toppings might feature macarons, or mini balls of plain choux puffs that make for fun vessels to enjoy scoops of the frozen treats with.
Some 24 ice cream options are freshly churned, and the rotating selection can spotlight novel flavours (from $5.50) of milk tea made with smoky lapsang souchong, genmaicha drizzled with Manuka honey, bingsu-inspired injeolmi, and black cold brew sorbet.
For light bites and nibbles, the pastry shelves are lined with a variety of fun, modern bakes. Highlights include the salted caramel-topped canelé ($4); black-tea infused madeleine ($4), coated in strawberry chocolate; coffee mascarpone mini pound cake ($4.50); and hazelnut mocha sable sandwiches ($5.50) that are reminiscent of Ferraro Rocher.
Even the drinks menu curates the best from the region. Sip on single-origin sencha ($10) with varying profiles that range from sweet and crisp, to umami and complex. Or sip on coffee (from $5) with beans from Allpress, with features a medium roast blend that boasts notes of chocolate and toffee.
