Ah, The Ship – still docked (sorry) in its original location and run by the same, seemingly immortal managers and wait-staff. Like its Orchard Road near-neighbour Shashlik, getting to The Ship is like wandering through a labyrinth, but once you get there it’s like stepping back in time. The interior is dimly lit, with candles – good for dates and bad-hair days – and red leather seats. As for eats, it features a standard steakhouse menu and decent service. Avoid adventurous dishes like buttered escargot and go for reliable favourites like steak and baked alaska. Just don’t go down on a Sunday when whole families flock there – mostly the parents’ doing – for a little taste of nostalgia.
