Someone’s got to move in to District 10’s old digs now that it’s moved to UE Square, and indeed, owner Celine Tan has done a good job going for a casual vibe, converting the former Monk’s Hill Secondary School canteen into two dining spaces: on both sides of 1970s brick-tile-patterned black dividers are a sit-down dining area with tempered-glass table-tops and worksheet-style paper placemats, and a lounge area fitted with rocking chairs and benches that hark back to prep-school days. There’s also a small alfresco space with swings.
The menu of this 100-seater runs along the same thread – with new changes put in place since April this year, Skyve is an ideal spot for a breezy breakfast, a lazy lunch or after-dinner drinks. Its new à la carte offerings include dishes like the 'escargot' style oyster with nori butter and bonito flakes ($34++ for half a dozen), the comforting sous-vide egg and spaghettini ($18++) in truffle salsa with iberico ham and the cereal crusted cod ($36++). If you're looking for a more hearty choice, try the Asian-inspired duck leg confit ($36++) with pickled fennel, orange salsa and polenta frites, or the sous-vide pork ($36++) in root beer and spice with pineapple and pomegranate salsa. For those with a sweet tooth, they've also got you covered. Inspired by Reds ($12++) is a sweet concoction of strawberry parfait, sous-vide strawberry in balsamic vinegar and raspberry sorbet. With about 20 new dishes on the menu, there's lots to choose from, including a new wine list.
Other promos include 1-for-1 'Skyving' hours: Wed-Sat 4-8pm, Sun-Tue from 4-11pm for draught beers and selected wines by the glass. They've also got a weekday breakfast menu with a promo set of two eggs, toasted bread, baked beans and sausage or honey baked ham ($6), available from Mon-Fri, 10-11.30am. Brunch fanatics can go for the croque madame ($16++) or Skyve sous vide eggs Benedict ($18++), available on Mon-Fri, 10am-4pm or Sat, Sun and public holidays, 10am-4pm.
