Get your dose of chawanmushi at this take-away shop at International Plaza, right across Tanjong Pagar MRT. If you really can't guess from the name, the whole concept
is fixated on one dish – chawanmushi – conveniently packed in little foil cups. It's a great hot side dish to go with salads, or better yet, the chirashi don you dabao-ed back to your desk from Teppei.
The classic mushi ($2.90) includes prawns, shiitake mushrooms, surimi and chicken cubes. If you're in the mood for a little more extravagance, get the ikura ($4.90) or the kani ($4.50), which are topped with salmon roe or crab meat. Go yolk free with ranpaku ($3.50), which otherwise contains the same ingredients as the classic mushi. The meatless Kinoko ($3.50) is a shroom party with shiitake, shimeiji, enoki and white button mushrooms.
The stall's opening hours of 7.30am-7.30pm span across all major meal times. Chawanmushi for breakfast might sound like an odd proposition, but it works surprisingly well. Who knew.
