Muchos Mexican Bar & Restaurant

Muchos attempts to transplant a traditional Mexican cantina into a Clarke Quay setting, with mixed results. While the brightly coloured backdrop and collection of Latin handicrafts do set the scene, the hip-hop soundtrack detracts from the authenticity.

Redemption of sorts comes from a menu packed with Mexican staples and themed cocktails. Si, the margaritas are a bit on the weak side and the guacamole is light on the avocado, but the generous main courses help in making up for these shortcomings: the beef burrito is topped with thick slices of tender meat and vegetarians can opt to replace the meat with a mound of freshly grilled bell peppers, onions and snow peas. Expect quayside prices, though the good grub and service mean you get more for your dinero. Paul Williams
