With a charming and rustic décor plastered all over with TV screens, quirky vintage posters and chunky pillars in the middle, Morganfield's serves up a hearty portion of Southern hospitality with the old school vibes of an American diner in the glittering '50s. Inspired by the magic of blues music and comforting soul food, the owners set up shop in (surprise) Malaysia, and most recently, a new franchised branch on our shores.
At the heart of this place lies slab upon slab of good, old fashioned barbecued pork ribs, or what is fittingly called 'sticky bones.' The signature hickory wood-smoked ribs ($24.90-$36.90) are slowly smoked with hickory wood to produce meat that's tender and falls off the bone almost immediately. Choose from different varieties like smoked peppercorn, tuscan baked spicy tomato sauce or hickory BBQ. Besides the star of the show, Morganfield's also serves up a whole range of seafood, steaks, sandwiches and burgers like grilled pork rib-eye chop ($22.90), tequila spiked chicken ($20.90), seafood basket ($26.90), smokehouse bacon cheeseburger ($22.90), Morgan's hot rib sandwich ($19.90) and more. Start off your meal with appetizers like sautéed mushrooms ($9.90), chilli cheese fries ($12.90) or bacon wrapped meatballs ($9.90), or go straight to the ribs if you can't contain your cravings.
If you're heading over with a bunch of friends, don't go too crazy with your order, as the portions here are American-sized (read: huge) and wholesome. Make sure you save room for dessert, and go straight for the melt-in-your-mouth home-made apple pie ($9.90) or moist chocolate lava cake ($13.90), or perhaps both.
This 180-seater may be surrounded by an overwhelming selection of restaurants and cafés, but there's no question about its draw and ability to hold its own against the rest. Expect it to be crowded on most evenings, especially over the weekend, so reservations are a must. Definitely one of the 'stars' at The Star Vista.
