Heritage recently moved from its road-front location off Sixth Avenue to a dimly lit, black-and-white dining chamber in the touristy Copthorne Orchid hotel. While the suburban location may not appeal to the hip dinner crowd, the North Indian cuisine is first rate. The chicken makhani, boneless tandoori-baked chicken, is served in a dense tomato- and spice-accented sauce; and a rarely seen crab biryani, fluffy grains of basmati rice – tossed with vegetables and crab pieces and served with a side condiment of raita (yoghurt dip) – both grace the menu’s pages. Vegetarians can indulge in the simple yet profoundly flavoursome lentils in cumin seed-flecked thick gravy, or the refreshing chopped and spinach-coated paneer chunks. With the lure of generous servings, wallet-friendly price tag, graceful staff and a solid kitchen, it won’t be long before discerning foodies sniff their way to our favourite North Indian restaurant of the moment.
