Yakiniku ranks high among the many Japanese dishes that Singaporeans know and love. Chains like Yakiniku Like and Yakiniku-Go have revolutionised our dining culture, offering affordable set meals below $15 and the fun experience of cooking your own meat over personal grills. These restaurants have also become a popular choice among solo diners.
Following the success of these chains, another yakiniku brand from Japan recently made its debut in Singapore in late December last year. Yakiniku Gyubei sets itself apart by pioneering a “zero-waste” nose-to-tail yakiniku experience. This means that on top of regular cuts like short plate and shoulder meat, you can expect to find lesser-seen cuts of meat at Yakiniku Gyubei outlets.
The chain, which has been around since 1999, now has 22 outlets across Japan, exclusively serving wagyu beef from ethically-raised Kyushu cattle. At its new outlet at 100AM, diners can expect 24 cuts of wagyu, from common ones like sirloin and shoulder meat, to rarer cuts like chateaubriand (a part of the tenderloin), and uchimono or topside round (from the cow’s rear leg). For the adventurous, beef tongue and large intestines are also available.
Lunch sets at Yakiniku Gyubei start at a fairly wallet-friendly price of $13.90, and come with pairings of the chain’s homemade ‘secret sauce’. Those looking for a fuller experience can opt for the à la carte options or dinner omakase starting from $48. The restaurant also has a reasonably priced omakase BBQ course at $100 for two persons.
From its official opening on January 10 all the way to January 26, the store will be offering $30 off its omakase set with six kinds of yakiniku (originally priced at $98).
On top of that, diners can look forward to a similar nose-to-tail shabu shabu concept – Shabu Shabu Sumire-An – also opening at 100AM soon. The new restaurant will serve wagyu shabu shabu sets starting from $15.90.
